Deputy Principal Academics

The function of the office of the Deputy Principal in charge of Academics revolves around the process of imparting skills to trainees of Sigalagala National Polytechnic in the most effective and efficient way. To ensure that academic excellence in achieved, the DP Academics supervises all aspects of curriculum development, accreditation and certification, foster quality TVET through curriculum implementation supervision, ensure optimization of Sigalagala National Polytechnic (SNP) resources and infrastructure in delivery of its mandate.

The office also has the responsibility to promote a culture of innovation, research and extensions at the polytechnic and the coordination of trainees’ curriculum and co-curricular activities as well as their welfare. I operate an open-door-policy where we hold fortnightly meetings with the student departmental representatives assess progress areas such as syllabus coverage and practical sessions. Through these meetings, we are able to identify and reach out to the vulnerable students to address their individual challenges.

Sigalagala National Polytechnic offers a wide range of accredited technical courses using curricula that are skill-based and aligned to the needs of the industry. The college is known for its quality graduates who fit and remain relevant and successful in the industries where they are absorbed. At SNP we sharpen skills of people already in employment by offering short courses in areas such as Solar PV technology, Computer Application packages, Hair Dressing and Beauty Therapy, Horticulture and Driving.

Our vision is to offer degree programs in Education Technology, Cosmetology and Food Technology in partnership with Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. This will ensure continuity for those trainees with dreams of pursuing degree courses to transit to the next level in their academic pursuits. We also have a vision to offer medical courses such as Medical Engineering, Medical Laboratory Science, Health Records and Information Technology, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical marketing, Herbal Chemistry, HIV and Community Development and Community development.

The institution has great capacity to deliver its mandate; a focused Governing Council that has spearheaded efficient training and innovation at the institution, a focused Chief Principal who is a team player and efficiently leads college programs, as well as an adept Finance Manager who ensures that all departments are well facilitated to undertake efficient service delivery. Together with a team of competent, experienced and innovative trainers. SNP is a center of excellence in Renewable Energy (Solar PV).

The institution has fabricated fifty (50) hand wash stations each with four sinks that are strategically placed to ensure frequent hand washing by staff and trainees in preparation for reopening of institutions after a long break.

We offer quality and relevant courses of choice which are tailored towards job market as well as self-employment. We also supplement academics by nurturing identified talents in various fields amongst our trainees.

Sigalagala National Polytechnic would like to collaborate with the industry country –wide to have our trainees attached both for mentorship and internship and for acquisition of hands-on experience of skills learnt in college. We would also like to collaborate with the community in the security of institution property, trainees and trainers. The institution is open to partner with the community by offering skills through short courses that will help in their day to day income generating projects such as horticulture farming, Organic farming, baking, hairdressing, beauty therapy.
