Information Communication Technology

The department of Computer Studies and Mathematics has been mandated to effectively conceive, develop, implement, utilize and manage appropriate information communication technology solution systems in order to provide integrated quality services to Sigalagala Polytechnic in line with vision, mission, core values and objectives besides offering teaching and learning services.

To be a dynamic and employer driven trainer of highly skilled ICT graduates to meet the local and global technical job requirements. At Sigalagala National Polytechnic we deliver graduates who are: well trained on computer literacy and computing support to ensure the Government’s objectives of actualizing Vision 2030 using technology.

ICT academics department is one of the departments at Sigalagala National Polytechnic that offers ICT related courses at diploma and certificate levels. The key role of the department in the Institution is to impart trainees with relevant skills and knowledge that will enable them to compete and foster active participation in nation building.
The skills gained by our trainees include:

  1. Programming
  2. Computer Networking
  3. Database Administration
  4. System Administration
  5. Computer Repair and Maintenance
  6. Computer Applications

 

Courses examinable by The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) include:

  • Diploma in Information Communication Technology (DICT) – Module based
  • Craft Certificate in Information Technology (CCIT) – Module based

 

The Diploma Course is divided into three modules. On successful completion of the three Modules, one receives a Diploma in Information Communication Technology.

The Craft Certificate Course is divided into two modules. The students graduate with a Certificate in Information Technology after successful completion of the 2 Modules. Those who successfully complete the Certificate Course, join the Diploma Level at second year. Courses examinable by TVET/CDACC include:

  • ICT Technician Level 6
  • ICT Technician Level 5

 

The courses offered have been developed to cater for needs of those intending to specialize in the area of ICT.

Intake and Training Facilities

The intake of these courses is in January and May and September. The ICT courses provide students with a basis for further progression to the Universities. Students who attain credit passes at Diploma level are absorbed into the Universities at Second Year Level.

The department plans to increase student enrolment to five hundred and also introduce CISCO certification course.

I would encourage the community to invest in partnership with the institution and actively participate in our activities and also invest in the construction of hostels for students that will mutually benefit the organization and the community.
